Treasure Island Hotel
The History of Treasure Island Las Vegas

The glittering resort city of Las Vegas boasts many luxury hotels and entertainment venues along the notorious Las Vegas Strip. One of those luxury, themed hotels is Treasure Island which is nowadays more commonly referred to as "TI". Currently owned by real estate investor Phil Ruffin, TI is a good example of the kind of sparkling opulence a vacationer looks for when traveling to Las Vegas, boasting the casino, pools, a spa, top notch restaurants and A-list entertainment.

Back in 1993, when the Treasure Island resort was built, it was decided that a pirate theme would be used. The hotel plans were to be a family friendly option in Las Vegas, decking the place out in pirate style from the decor, uniforms and shows in order to hopefully appeal to families with children and draw them to the city. The marketing ploy at the time was strongly directed at those types of vacationer. However, in the year 2003, the hotel underwent a huge renovation of both physical style and marketing objective, becoming known as "TI" and toning down the pirate theme to a more adult-friendly style. It was at this time that the childrens' swimming pool area and arcade were both remodeled extensively and instead a hot tub and night club area were established in the space. This is further proof that Vegas has become a true adult playground.

When the hotel first opened and was geared towards families with children, the spectacular Buccaneer Bay show began just outside Treasure Island, where it could draw people who stopped to watch the show further into the resort. The Buccaneer Bay show was a wonderfully typical pirate skirmish with a village, complete with a full scale, completely staffed pirate ship. This ship and the technology involved in the Buccaneer Bay show were incorporated in the 2003 overhaul of TI. A new show called "Siren's Cove" began, furthering the efforts of TI to appeal to adult travelers.

In recent years, Las Vegas hotels and entertainment venues have become almost exclusively adult oriented. While this does not mean always risque' or edgy, it does mean that the ideal vacation for families with children is not likely to include shows in Las Vegas. Adults only vacationers, on the other hand, are not likely to find a more exotic, magical place to spend time away from the real world. Treasure Island is but one of the many resorts that offer a luxurious, memorable experience.
