A shining jewel of the Nevada desert, Las Vegas is a magical getaway sought after by many travelers who want to escape from reality for awhile. The saying "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" did not come about for no reason. The availability of entertainment from casinos to shows to nightclubs and restaurants can have a traveler feeling like royalty in no time. The beautiful Luxor Hotel Las Vegas is no exception to the luxury rule of the city.
Opened in 1993, the Luxor Hotel Las Vegas began as an extravagant entertainment resort done in an ancient Egypt theme, from the building itself to the decor and various shows. The name Luxor came from the city of Luxor in ancient Egypt, which used to be the ancient city of Thebes. The magnificent black glass pyramid structure is a landmark on the Las Vegas strip. The top of the pyramid produces an intense beam of light shining upwards. This is done with Xenon lamps and curved mirrors to intensify and guide the light beam. This is a prominent identifier of the Luxor that can be seen miles away. A year after opening, in 1994, this hotel was featured on the cover of Time magazine as representation of the opulent, fast-growing city of Las Vegas.
The Egyptian theme, while popular and appealing, was geared a bit more towards family vacationers than adults at the outset. That perspective all changed in the year 2007, when the Luxor Hotel Las Vegas underwent a massive renovation project. This transformation took away much of the Egyptian themed decor and activities and instead brought in a much more adult related vibe by the addition of modern lounges and upscale restaurants not quite suited for screaming three year old patrons. The rooms and venues were all redone to express a very different yet attractive style.
As Las Vegas has thrived and grown in recent years, entertainment resorts like the Luxor Hotel Las Vegas have evolved to fit the types of vacationers being drawn to the desert resort city. Las Vegas has become a bona fide adult playground, offering shows of all kinds, a nightclub scene that seems to never end as well as the casinos, which are a world unto themselves. Shows range from exotic and provocative to well known music acts and famous singers, magic shows and riveting performances abound as well. The nightlife is where the pulse of the city is found, for the glittering wonderland never sleeps, especially once darkness falls. With the buildings and entertainment venues artfully designed to give the illusion of being in another world completely, climate is comfortably controlled and nights and days can easily run together in the city of lights.
