MGM Resorts International is the owner of the Bellagio Hotel Las Vegas. The hotel is located in Clark County, in the Paradise area of the Las Vegas Strip. As one of the top hotels anywhere in the world, it's a AAA Five Diamond award-winning entertainment complex. The Bellagio was formerly the site of the Dunes, which was torn down. The Dunes was a famous hotel and casino complex. MGM Resorts International has its corporate headquarters located at the resort. It's the main resort complex for the company, and is one of the most famous landmarks on the Las Vegas Strip.
The spectacular resort at Lake Como, Italy, which is also known as Bellagio, is where the Bellagio Hotel Las Vegas got its inspiration from. The hotel is one of the most elegant in the city, and has its own lake between the hotel and The Strip, which is famous itself for the spectacular water fountains which are synchronized to music to produce amazing displays for visitors. A magnificent display of 2,000 hand-blown glass flowers covers the ceiling in the elegant lobby. Mirage Resorts, Inc. first conceived the idea for the Bellagio. When the Dunes was demolished in 1993, plans for the new resort complex were drawn up. The original cost of the complex was said to be $1.6 billion.
The festive opening of the Bellagio Hotel Las Vegas was in 1998. The opening ceremony was held at a cost of approximately $88 million. The guests invited to attend the opening donated $1,000 per person to the Foundation Fighting Blindness. If a couple attended, they donated $3,500. All of the guests were treated to an overnight stay at the hotel, and stayed in one of the suites. The opening night festivities included a performance by the famous Cirque du Soleil. Headline performers opened in the hotel's lounges. When the hotel was built, it became the most expensive built in Las Vegas, and in the entire world.
The Bellagio Hotel Las Vegas became a property of MGM Mirage Resorts in 2000, after a merger with MGM Grand Inc. The company took the new name of MGM Resorts International in 2010. Today, the hotel has a staff of 10,000. The Bellagio has been seen in a number of feature films including Ocean's Eleven, Ocean's Thirteen, and Rush Hour 2. The Bellagio was recently remodeled, with major changes to the floor of the hotel's casino. The original color scheme of the casino was completely changed. All of the casino's employees received new uniforms, and the casino is now designed in an elegant new color scheme, reflecting the elegance of the Bellagio.
